I love Begin the Beguine and a lot of people have buggered it up. Thomas Hampson is not one of them. This is terrific.
But how come the man on the piano has a page turner. When I play it I have to turn my own pages and there are silences.

@chef4hyr You may have missed the meaning of "classical training". Classical training is about removing tensions within the voice and the body so as to free the voice so as to be able to express emotion. If you look at the great Maria Callas, her interpretations are so full of emotion! Bryn Terfel, Claron Mcfadden, Dame Janet Baker, are all good examples.
My point isn't about this recording, but the general issue you raised. There is plenty of emotion in this song, perhaps you should replay it?

Wonderful!Thanks for sharing.

Holy shit! When he started singing, I dropped a load. This doesn't make sense. I love his voice

I think that Thomas Hampson is one of the few full blown operatic voices that CAN do justice to Cole Porter's songs!

No, perhaps this isn't the definitive recording of this song, but please stop comparing it to studio recordings and movie clips. This is an ENCORE from a LIVE concert by a man who has EARNED his stripes. Appreciate the song, it's longevity, and most importantly, it's accessibility- from Julio Iglesias to Ella. This song transcends the musical genre as it is in a sense, perfect. Perhaps his performance does have enough emotion, sure, but do not blame it on the operatic style.

Till you whisper to me, "Darlin', I love you."

I think Cole Porter intended his music to be sung from the heart and not from a trained voice that can simply hit the notes; I know, because I am classically trained, and sometimes that can get in the way of how the song was meant to be sung. His music is free, fun and full of expression and should be portrayed that way. Just sing it and have a good time doing it... Don't over do it and you will be happy....

@raulprima LOL!
I'm not really interested in a long debate but I would have to argue that cole porter actually intended his songs to be sung with a full voice. You also seem to be suggesting that a classically trained voice is incapable of "complex passion and believability" it is the exact opposite. Perhaps you should listen to some more classical singers to gain a better appreciation and understanding.
