THREE TEENAGERS GET 10 YEARS IN SKATEBOARD BEATING

BARSTOW • Three teen boys accused of beating a 14-year-old with a skateboard — allegedly because they were bored — accepted plea deals Friday that will put them behind bars for 10 years.

Sebastian McClinton, 17, Jonte Lee Fort, 16, and Randy Moore, 16, pleaded guilty to an assault with a deadly weapon, causing great bodily injury on another and participation in a gang. They will serve 10 years, but are recommended to be held by the Division of Juvenile Justice until they are 25 years old, according to the plea agreement.

The three defendants were also charged with second-degree robbery and attempted robbery, but the charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement. Deputy District Attorney Connie Standley said they could have faced 19 years if they were convicted on all charges.

The boys were tried as adults because of the seriousness of the injuries to the victim and other information available to the District Attorneys office, according to Standley.

They told officers they did it because they were bored, Standley said.

The victim told officers he was on his way home from skating with friends when he was confronted by a group of boys near Bighorn Drive on January 24. The group demanded money from the victim and then punched him and hit him with his skateboard.

The victim was taken to Barstow Community Hospital and later airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he was treated for a fractured skull and bleeding in his brain.

The three boys were arrested for the assault on January 27 after a police investigation. They will be formally sentenced August 3 at the Barstow Courthouse.

Something i want to add, for those that are complaining about 10 year sentence to prison... well you can't just focus on the 3 boys your leaving out the other little kid who got jump... imagine him as your trusted friends or brother and you'll know the feeling of it... it's sad to know that one of your love one becomes mentally ill the next day after he or she got jump... so please people out there hear me out think about the long term consequences before you do something STUPID!!!

I think you have it backwards. Its more like, they thought they could get away with anything, beat someone almost to death because they were bored, but it turns out they jumped the wrong person. Now they are learning that their actions have consequences and are off the streets, unable to harm other innocent people. They had their day in court, and they lost. Sorry.
