  • Professional? I can play that smoother on a walmart bass that I picked up out of the box and I'm in highschool. Your left hand was a train wreck below 5th fret around the low G, your fingers went straight and had no curve to them. Also buzzed so much! Build up finger strength and push the string down

  • You are a fool. Only a scared little kid who felt he had something to prove would've left such a ridiculous comment. Once you grow up, if you continue to study the instrument, you may one day look back on yourself and realize you sucked in highschool, you didn't really know anything yet and you probably shouldn't have criticized people with real experience and training.

  • Also, you're not hearing the strings buzzing, this is one of my earlier vids and I was having trouble getting the crappy camera mic to pick up the amp with good tone and I had the treble really high so it wouldn't clip. I had also just changed the strings and they sounded really tinny. Trust me, I play upright Jazz bass as well and I have plenty of finger strength.

  • i'm not complaining about your bass skills, i can tell you are very good... but have you listen to the song? the way you play the song is wrong, you're in the right key and everything and it sounds cool...but its simply not how it is played at all.

  • Yeah, I know. This is sort of the version I play after awhile of playing it with other musicians. It's been a long time since I actually sat with the recording, and you're right, it's different.

  • then why are you teaching it hotshot

  • I'm teaching the gig version that I play because it's simple to memorize and execute. This vid is geared towards people learning to play bass in general or want to learn it quickly for a gig. If you want the EXACT note for note transciption, buy the sheet music.

  • Damn I am never switching to bass. I thought guitar players were snobby dicks but it seems that bass players can take being a type A douchebag personality to a whole new level. To the OP...Nice job dude. Quiet helpful.

  • A lot of negative responses to such a helpful post. If you have the experience and skill set to play the part Mr. Steele shares with us, you can also play all kinds of tasty stuff within the lick and changes. Being a good player is rarely about playing your instrument's part on a recording note for note. Technique is irrelevant if you're nailing the part. I play the sax runs on this without hitting the two open strings. Technique Freaks might have a cow watching my left hand. It sounds tight.

  • @bass4grace hahaaha.... i bet the poor kid's given up playing now.... fine by me.. nice lesson man.

  • @THEP0P0 ouch baby, get laid much?

  • @bass4grace @bass4grace Ive learned y share of piano theory for 9 years and have played my share of cello and upright bass also. I wouldn't be playing rush and yes songs on bass if I didn't have the skill set to

  • I have two questions for you, mister bass player.

1- I found it easier to simply make a pull-off on the second fret of the G string, near the end of the line. what do you think?

2- I tend to use three finger to play the lines. u think it's a bad habit?

    thanks

  • smooth and nice tone, bravo. thanks for the lesson
