Rep. Jerry Nadler slams the recent spending deal which undermines the middle class and jeopardizes the economic recovery. Nadler explains how Republicans used the threat of a government shutdown to blackmail the President and Democrats into accepting cuts that will lead to the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs.

More broadly, Rep. Nadler also addressed the mistaken perception that budget cuts alone will reverse the recession. Cutting expenditures in a time of recession is actually deflationary and will directly lead to significant unemployment, threatening to overturn the economic recovery and lead to a double-dip recession.

Nadler also discussed the Republican plan to eliminate Medicare and Medicaid as we know it, all while lowering the tax rates for the wealthiest Americans and placing the burden for these terrible cuts squarely on the shoulders of middle- and low-income Americans.
