Considering that Obama was a State Senator in 2002, he could not have voted for or against this war...

He outlines it fairly clearly in his response. The question wasn't whether the US could or could not overthrow Saddam. The question was 'what happens after Saddam is gone'. That region of the world has a lot of tribalism and this leads to a lot of violent intertribal conflict. As we've seen the cost for the US to 'rebuild' and try to glue the country back together is too large - the US simply can't afford it. So now Iraq is splintered between a lot of very nasty people.

It's not about securing oil reserves in Iraq. It's about preventing a government that won't roll over for the U.S gov't from gaining influence in the oil-rich region. If you look at many of the foreign policy doctrines since the Truman Doctrine, you'll see reference to the "right" of the U.S gov't to intervene on foreign soil to protect access to resources, like oil. Even Carter, a supposed wimp, basically claimed the Middle East as U.S Territory.

Obama is continuing this legacy, now with Iran.

It didn't require a war. Saddam should've been ousted after the Gulf War.

I respect Mr. Obama generally but I do not understand his position on Iraq, the war brought the end of a dictatorship which for 35 years was committing genocide.

Obama never voted for or against the war in Iraq, he did vote for continued funding for the war in Iraq, Hillary Clinton voted for the war in Iraq (so guess where Bill stood on the issue),

The war was not about oil, if it was then the US failed to take advantage of securing the oil following the war. AMERICA STOP BEING STUPID!!!!!!!!
