Hymn to St. Magnus. A Music Video by Robert Fruehwald. Music 1997. Video 2009. Hymn to St. Magnus is based on a 12th century hymntune from the Orkney Islands. This adaptation of the hymn was composed for two flutes and CD and is a part of a larger work known as Hymntunes III. The video is made from photographs of Scotland and Northern England by Chadie Fruehwald and images of the Lewis Chessmen found in the National Museum of Scotland. The video portion is intentionally simple because this piece is first and foremost a musical work. The video was added purely to enhance the music and to make it more accessible. Flutists for this performance were Paul Thompson and Robert Fruehwald.
