  • Thx stevepowerrr, I suppose I am guessing based on the chemistry (and physics) that could be going on. That's the fun part of science :-)

  • That's really cool! How do you know so much about what happened step by step.

  • @SNL3Funny well you could use electrolyse( or electrosynthesis im not sure wether its called in english) on sodium hydroxid

  • @quintilit yeah because its just SOO easy to make pure sodium out of sea salt, genius

  • cool

  • @SodiumMan Ouch indeed! That wasn't good!

  • I agree, I think the kinetics are limited by the evolution of hydrogen, enveloping the ball of hot sodium, so having hot HCl would make no difference. I don't really want to try it, the final pop at the end sent a piece of hot sodium onto the back of my neck. Ouuch!

  • its because its water that its possible for the reaction to take place in hydrochloric acid i dont believe it would have an effect

  • would it be an even more explosive reaction if you were to use hot concentrated hydrochloric acid instead of water?

  • Thanks a lot! Now the tairsts, who have access to abundant supplies of salt in such places as the Red/Dead Sea and Persian Gulf, will know how to better build sodium bombs! Better start learning Farsi I suppose!
