On March 4th 2008 British pig farmers went to Whitehall (Westminster, London) as part of a national 'Pigs Are Worth It' campaign, to present a petition to Gordon Brown calling for government to help save the ailing British pig industry.
The National Pig Association (NPA) along with the British Pig Executive (BPEX) argue that British pig welfare standards are higher than their imported pork competitors. Costs for farmers are growing as grain prices rise and pork prices are low and farmers profit margins disintergrating whilst supermarkets cash in.
As part of the campaign farmers recorded Stand by your Ham, based on the Tammy Wynette 1968 classic Stand by your Man.
