My hat's off to these guys in the B-25 "strafers" in the 5th and 7th Air Forces in the Pacific. They didn't get the publicity that the 8th and 9th Air Forces got in Europe but they sure did a hell of a job. Two of my uncles were U.S. Army infantry on new Guinea and the Phillipines and I know they appreciated the air support they got from these guys.
Cool Video… My Dad flew with the 345th in the south pacific. He flew all his combat missions at less than a few hundred feet off the ground… All of it was strafing and skip bombing at low level. They never wore parachutes since they were useless in combat and he only put one on when his aircraft got lost and they almost ran out of gas. He flew 48 combat missions and had two crews he flew with were all killed in action. He was very lucky. Thanks for the Video.
This film was shot from my father's aircraft. He is the officer standing on the left at the end of the film, LT H.W.Cain. The name of the aircraft was the Princess Jake(His future wife and my mother) He had a 16mm print of this film, I believe the title was "Mitchells over the Marianas". I was unable to find it after his death. I would love to get it copied to DVD.
my father was in charge of the 1st prototype of this type aircraft. "Pappy's Folly", B-25C, named after Col Paul I. "Pappy" Gunn, 5th AF, Jolly Rogers, 90th BG
my grand father was in this outfit!! never thought i'd see in on youtube, he mentioned he and the CO going up and shooting the Big Rock(30 ft piece of rock painted white on Oahus range when they got the new planes.)said it was a fun.

Great series of posts. The great B25 gunship sure packed plenty of firepower.
