  • This originally aired live as part of a special telecast {"The Sound of Jazz"} on a short-lived CBS Sunday afternoon "cultural program", "THE SEVEN LIVELY ARTS". The man setting the scene for the number is host John Crosby, best known as a TV critic for the New York Herald-Tribune. This was also Billie's last major appearance on network television...

  • For me one of the best clip for explain what is the Blues, really talkin Blues, and for the history of Jazz, you can see the best legends playing together for Lady Day.

  • I love her. Her voice is utterly unique and her smile (in this video) is unforgettable

  • @boomerang905 Oh and go Jerry and Ben. You are were all that....musicians today only wish.

  • It's like a dream walking out all cute amongst these giant musicians. This is really what it's all about to me. Billie is so pretty through it all. This session ties it all together. We just never know the pain that follows all that glory. Coleman Hawkins OMG! Love them all.

    : )

  • How this can have less than a million views is beyond me!

  • Her face at 2:17 is my one of my favourite things in this video... Besides the smazing vocals, and sick saxophone

  • Mulligan for the win!

  • Sing that song, MAMA, Goddammit!! lol

  • how i love lester... perfect combination of wow!

  • Thanks for the wonder of film. Although I was alive when this was done, I was too young to understand. Now I can appreciate these superb musicians as though they were yet alive themselves. The fellows operating the cameras had no idea about the history they were witnessing I am sure.
