  • No, not bad grammar. Different grammar. Jamaican Patois is a dialect of English and takes grammatical elements from English mostly, but some from French as well. This is why, for example, he often says things like "He saw one puss"--in English, this would mean that he saw ONE cat (not two or three, and in this context would be redundant). In Patois, it means "a cat". "One" is an indefinite article just like "un/une" is in French.

Prescriptivism doesn't do anybody any good.

  • The Jamaican accent really has to be one of the coolest accents to hear, it's amazing how entertaining this is to listen to just because of the accent.
