The Box

Fred Wolf's 1967 oscar winner. Very rarely seen, maybe because it's very much of it's era. You may have seen some films directed by Wolf, such as the TV specials like The Point, or Puff, the Mag...

Oh wow. I've been searching for this for so long I was about to give up all hope of ever seeing it. I've even tried contacting Fred Wolf Films to no avail. Thanks so much for posting. Now I can say that I've seen every Oscar winner for Best Animated Short.

My pleasure! Looking for all the Oscar winners is a worthwhile thing to do IMO, and was almost impossible until recently. The 1984 olympic list of animated film is another one worth looking for, one of the few list with enough variety in style.

We can't forget the animation from Free to Be...You and Me. Or the animation he did for Zappa's 200 Motels. Or that famous Tootsie Pop ad.

Fred Wolf's stuff always looked creepy, scribbly, sometimes even psychedelic. Hard to believe a guy who adapted a concept/story album inspired by drugs, a song [not really] about drugs, and did animation for a guy whose music sounded like it was [but wasn't] on drugs would go on to kid-friendly fare like Ninja Turtles.

Oh, to be clear, the drug-inspired album is The Point. Nilsson came up with the idea while tripping on LSD, he said so himself.

You could add that as a video annotation at the beginning of the video. :)
