I filmed Two Tri-Stars at D/FW in 1996. One turned out to be N728DA, which flew the last L-1011 flight for Delta in 2001.

  • The L-1011 was a truly artistic plane.. It's sloping S-Engine.. Not too short or tall landing gear.. Looks like the true Delta aircraft. I miss the old days of aviation.

  • I miss this aircraft. The Lockheed TriStar was my favorite in all of commercial aviation. It broke my heart when they were all retired!!!

  • No offense, but the sound of this scared the crap out of me when the video first started.

  • I flew on L1011's six times in 1989-1990 between ATL and LAX, on Eastern Airlines. The passenger sitting next to me the first time claimed the thing could take off using its tail engine alone if necessary.

  • my brother and i flew on the Delta L1011, back on august 6th 1990 from frankfurt to DFW. it was flight number 23 and a 10 hour flight. Was a very nice aircraft. Our parents sent us back to the US, so our schooling wouldn't be interupted. There was few other kids traveling alone too on that flight. We sat in the middle seats for most of the flight, then the flight attendants took us and the other kids flying alone and had us all sit in first class for the last 45 minutes of the flight. Awesome!

  • Flew one of these out of DFW the same year to Las Vegas for my daughters wedding. On a vacation charter from an outfit called Sun Country. One of the most comfortable rides I ever had on a commercial jet. Lockheed made a very nice airplane in the Super TriStar. 1985 has haunted it's legacy ever sense...

  • wow, when i was a kid flew Braniff airlines quite a bit between dallas and tampa.77,78,79 best i can recall.what planes were they?i was 6,7, and 8.they gave me litttle airplanes.I flew by myself and a stewardes made sure i was on the right flight to tampa,we stoppped in atlanta to change flights.ill never forget it.Can you imagine a parent taking you to the airport and sending you on your way nowadays? Thats just what my mom did.True story.

  • Back then, people loved kids. Today people think they're just a big annoyance.

  • I love it ,such a nostalgia going back. Tearing up

  • @tonyde52 I am 31 and I did fly on a couple of the L-1011's when I was a kid. If I remember correctly, one was Delta and the other was TWA. But yeah I hear ya........back in the days, the airlines used to be the good guys. Nowadays??? FORGET IT!! These cheap bastards want to charge you for EVERYTHING!! And if you actually want a meal in flight?? Well be prepared to take out a second mortgage on your house, because thats about what it's going to cost you. Customer service is a bad word now! LOL

  • @Stonehouse760 Have you ever flown on one? All I can say is WOW! I collect model planes . I'm a grown up kid. I have a Delta L-1011. It is one of my faves, along with my Braniff Orange Boeing 727. God, I really miss the great days of aviation when airplanes were cool, and the airlines were plentiful. It makes me sad that all of the wonderful & unique airlines are now gone. Sorr about the LONG message, once I get started.....
