Want to clean your wort chiller easily? Simple, can be done in 5 minutes or by just letting it soak for 10-15 minutes. You need something acidic like sanitizing solution, vinegar solution, or lemon juice solution. PBW & scrubbing works well too but takes a little more effort.

  • Copper handles bases pretty well, so I wouldn't worry. However, I agree a simple rince should do the job and be more simple. Plus it avoids a possible mess from the CO2 foam that should form.

  • @Tungstene Thanks for the comment....this has actually become an interesting topic...I am hoping to see more comments and feedback from people watching.

  • i saw the annotations in the video and I do taxidermy work....ok...thats sort of a strange parallel to brewing, but I use an acid solution to pickle the hides, and the pickling process is stopped by using baking soda and clean water....I wonder if the same would apply to the wort chiller and metal/copper?

    Just a thought???

  • @bmeyer44 Hmmm...baking soda is a base so it makes sense that it would neutralize the acid...I but I think my buddy's concern is that the acid is weakening the copper when in contact with the copper....If I ever need to neutralize acid I'd reach for some baking soda for sure....but I think rinsing with water is effective for this situation....I wonder, does anybody know how a base affects copper metal?
