  • im assuming that the 69gr. SMK is a real popular bullet used in the service rifle class (ARs).

what do you load? i love the 75gr hornady a max for long range stuff. but im not sure that they would able to be seated deep enough to mag feed in the ARs.

  • @joeshmoe12301230 Actually, I don't really know anyone using 69 SMK anymore. Everyone uses a 75 or 77 for 200 and 300. Some will use 77 at 600 but most use an 80gr variant at 600. My match ammo is 77gr Lapua Scenar for 200/300 and 80gr Berger VLD for 600. And you are correct: 75gr A-Max are seated long just like 80gr bullets, and must be single loaded through the ejection port.

  • about how much does it cost for a year of doing this sport for an ar15 and wouldn't it be easier with a 1903

  • Annual costs? Assuming you already have the equipment, then the expenditures are all on ammunition, range fees (to practice/train), match fees, gas/travel, and maintenance (rifle parts, equipment repair, etc). I've never calculated how much I spend, but I would say I spend at least $3000 USD a year for range/match fees, travel, and ammunition (I make my own ammo, so that's on bullets, primers, powder, and brass).

  • I shoot in the "Service Rifle" category, which only allows three different rifle types: M1 Garand, M14/M1A, and the M16/AR-15. The 1903 was removed from the Service Rifle category many years ago. Even if it were legal, it wouldn't be easier to use a 1903 for various reasons including the fact that the AR has better sights, less recoil, and better bullets which means better ammunition. The AR would also be cheaper to maintain. The cost of 'accurizing' the AR is less than any other service rifle.

  • Its very helpful watching your tech in video. Thank you

  • @ocabj wow. that's surprising (to me)! i wouldnt think that there would be much advantage at only 200 and 300 yards with the high BC bullets unless it's decently breezy.

so the 77gr scenars can be mag loaded for the rapid fire strings? and do you use a 1-7 or a 1-8 twist barrel for the 77 and 80s? my 1-9 shoots the 75 amax great, but im pretty sure it wouldnt handle anything heavier....

  • I like how you use the sling. I gotta experiment a bit more I think.

  • Inland Fish & Game will be closing it seems :(

  • thanks for sharing, nice form ill have to try shooting with a sling!!!i just bought a dpms sweet sixteen and love it

  • ok thanks for replying
