Safeties generally have a more difficult time getting into the HOF.

Polamalu wishes he was as tough as atwater

Why isn't this guy in the hall of fame then? 1,000 tackles 8 pro bowls 2 super bowl rings c'mon man

Love this dude. Definitely my favorite safety of all-time.

@PatrickRes9 The hit Atwater made on Rice in the Super Bowl was far from weak. I am a diehard niners fan and have much respect for Atwater. Rice himself talked about that hit after the game and how he was glad he saw it coming just in time to roll an control some of the impact of the hit. Far from being a poor tackle from Atwater, that play was simply a great and very alert play by Rice.

i love being a Broncos fan.

Best safety of his generation not named Ronnie Lott. Atwater deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

I was born and raised in Northern California. I am a die hard Niners fan. Ronnie Lott is a legend. All that being said, Steve Atwater was and still is one of my all-time favorite football players and the most vicious hitter I ever saw (in my era). He was a master of putting his shoulder and helmet right up under a receivers chin. He routinely dished out violent hits (back when they were legal and football wasn't neutered). He should most definitely be in the HOF!

@49erniner 49erniner, it happens. Even the hardest hitting safety may hit someone at a wrong angle and be ineffective. You can't take one miss-hit by Atwater, and state that he wasnt a vicious hitter. If anyone attempts to say he wasnt a cannon of a tackler, they clearly didnt watch football enough.

Can anyone not smile after they're talking about Okoye being such a badass motherfucker then Atwater smokes him?

I do actually have the Atwater smacking Bo Jackson tape but I only watch it alone, when my wife is out and I can do what I want LOL
I am not a Broncos fan at all, Atwater kicks ass though.
