This is Parodius Da!, a 1992 horizontal scrolling shoot 'em up video game produced by Konami for the Super Famicom console. It was also released in Europe for the PAL Super NES titled Parodius Non-Sense Fantasy. The gameplay is stylistically very similar to the Gradius series but the graphics and music are intentionally absurd. Choose from four spaceships: Vic Viper, Octopus, Twin Bee, and Pentarou.

This game can simply be played on the North American SNES:
1) by physical modification of the cart or the console
2) or you can get an adapter cart

  • This is one of my favourite SNES games. With this game, Konami redeemed themselves fully from the slow-down infested Gradius III. This game has tons of huge moving sprites and never slows down. A huge improvement.

I personally think the SNES version is even an improvement over the arcade version. Konami also released an excellent PC-Engine version, which is very faithful to the arcade version.

It's a huge shame it was never released in the US.

  • @porcorosso81 Thanks for your input. I really really love the Parodius games, so colorful and musical.

  • I loved this game when it came out. Been years since I've played it, but it's held up very well.

  • Still fun as ever.

  • one of the best shooter for the snes ... :-) the other parodius games are also very cool... aaah good times... the first and only shmup where you can fly under las vegas showgirls ^_^

  • At that time, I think it did not come out in the U.S. because of that scantily clad vegas showgirl. Not scantily by today's standards.

  • @Teraforce88 Gradius III was konami's first snes title, a lot of the early snes games had slowdown problems due to inexperience with the consoles slow processor... Gradius III is still my fav

  • This music brings me back to the good old times

  • For the longest time, I thought the Parodius series was Japan-only. It was only recently that I learned that at least some of the Parodius games were released in Europe.

What bothers me is this: If Parodius Da is supposed to be a parody of Gradius III, why is it programmed so much better (as in no slowdown)?? I would really like to see a slowdown-free version of Gradius III. Perhaps someone could hack Parodius Da and make it into Gradius III??

  • The Europeans were lucky to get a Parodius!

  • nce vids i feel like playing on my saturn...

    narox for sexy parodius go!
