Neither "Hispanic" nor "Latino" refers to a race, as a person of Latino or Hispanic ethnicity can be of any race.[6][9] Like non-Latinos, a Latino can be of any single race: White/Caucasian, Black/African American, Asian, Native American, or Pacific Islander. Again like non-Latinos, some may identify with more than one race, such as Mestizo (a bi-racial person of White/Caucasian and Native American descent), Mulatto (a person of White/Caucasian and Black/African American descent), Zambo (a person of Native American and Black/African American descent) or any other race or combination.

  • whats so funny is the name Latino..... Root word Latin. No no one has really spoken that pure latin language since the second fall of Rome. Spanish is a Latin language but not really Latin the same for Portuguese, Italian, and French. So if every one in central and south america are Latinos that would also in logic mean France Portugal and Italy are Latino Countries as well its all divide and conquer from Eurocentrics and i think we need to stop the Ignorance

  • Let me tell you a secret; mixed is not a race neither.

  • In the end We (world) are all the same, so love one another!

  • @HughJass370 That's entirely up to you, I would not dare tell anyone what race they should identify with. Just be aware that, since 'Race' (as used for humans) is a social construct and it is ascribed to us by the general population of the society in which we live, it's not really something that we 'chose'. Best thing to do is probably to describe your family background and let THEM decide what race you are, but do remind them that "Hispanic" and "Latino" are NOT races.

  • @lookagain77 So if someone asked me...Are you White...Black...Asian...or Native American... I would say White?! or white/native?

  • you hit it on the head and in every different country their might have more then one culture group just like in the USA .

  • @HughJass370 If you're Mestizo, that's your race, Mestizo, which means "mixed" (Just like saying "I'm of mixed race"). Except the usage of the word Mestizo inherently entails that one is referring to a specific mix, that is, Amerindian and Caucasian, REGARDLESS of the amount of contribution from each, in other words, it doesn't have to be 50/50, one could be the offspring of a Mestizo (instead of full Amerindian) and a Caucasian and still be Mestizo.

  • Can someone tell me if I'm a Mestizo... what race would that make me?!

  • Pacific islanders are basically Asian southern mongoloids living on little islands in the Pacific that was once part of south east Asia but broke into little islands and drifted into the Pacific DNA genetics skull teeth facial features still mongoloid still has DNA of those like Filipino Indonesian Malaysian southern Chinese Vietnamese Cambodian and the rest of south east Asia etc

  • If we Latinos were a race,we all would have been white or black, but this is not the case.Latinos come in a wide variety of skin color and features.there are some Latinos that look Asian, others look European,Indian,Mestizos,African, etc, etc.
