WWII Mustang Pilot Ace Dr. Clayton Kelly Gross describes what it was like to have to bail out of a P-51 Mustang for the first time. This video was shot at Rickenbacker Air Force base (now a freight airport) during The Final Gathering, a celebration of WWII pilots and the Mustang. Says "I always intended all of my take-offs to equal my landings". He began by introducing his 'beautiful wife'...he said "that's what you get when you're a figher pilot, a beautiful wife". He went out to dicuss his success at golfing, having gotten 5 aces (that's a hole in one) he said that must make him an ace-of-aces (5 kills in flying combat and 5 hole-in-ones), he continued on in that fighter pilot bravado "is anyone else here in this tent an ace-of-aces?" ha, it's sorta cute to see an old guy that still has that pilot ego and chip on his shoulder! He was saying all of this for our amusement of course, he wasn't trying to be an ass, just humoring us all with his great stories and achievments. He's awesome.
