  • I am a chemical engineering major and take umbrage at this uncharitable remark. Engineering can be very creative work too, and I am adequately depressive as well.

  • ha! not that i think ur depression is funny, but it affirms elizabeth's presentation as it goes agenst common thot. perhaps her reference 2 'safety' a la ur work as being inspired & manifested by sumthin other than yourself could provide u sum comfort?

  • Our civilization HATES it's creative people. Anyone with an impulse to create anything is relegated to poverty and ridicule. We are forced into jobs that destroy our souls and bodies. Our parents, teachers and bosses are there only to discourage us and use our energies for their own purposes. This world is HELL for creatives. That's why creatives are so miserable. It's NOT their natural state. It is the consequence of enslavement. This life is a WORK CAMP. Creativity is now a punishable offense.

  • so she skips from the ancient romans and greeks directly to the Renaissance period.

how hard is it to mention the contribution of islamic empires 900 years of contribution (700ad-1400ad). which by the way falls smack in btw the fall of the romans and the renaissance.

how can u forget islamic spains people.

  • accountants are creative too!

  • Beautifully put! The Beatles are a great example of what good art can accomplish. As a musician I wonder if I can ever even pay my rent with my creations, let alone influence people around the world. When I think about the musicians that have inspired me to play, I shudder to think that they could have given up before they started. How many today could be powerful examples to the next generation instead of punching the clock at some 9 to 5? By the way...... LOVE your name! Peace.

  • Looking back to the USSR, the music of The Beatles played a fairly large role in the cultural revolution of the youth, which played a greater roll in the eventual collapse than any of the efforts of the CIA. In fact when you look into most revolutions that changed the world you can find a strong roll for art in it's various manifestations, music in particular from the 60s onward. :D The USSR collapse in particular leads me to believe that the arts are of very great importance to our lives.

  • Obviously I was in a bit of a "mood" when I wrote that! But yes, I do feel that creative people are mostly not compatible with the way society is organized. We seem to be taught to think only one way. One size does not fit all. I think alot of educators need to understand that the world needs artists and musicians and writers, etc. Imagine a world without music, art and literature! UGH!

  • A thumbs up to this point isn't quite enough to express how true it is. Out of depression can come inspiration yes, but it's treated by most as though that's all there is to it; we need more people to question the system of our civilization as the root course of our mental state. I love you whoever you are!
