Over the last weeks, I have listened to so many interpretations of this aria here, trying to find the most beautiful one of this piece which is indeed made difficult by its simplicity - and now I remember that there is this! Just marvellous.

I'd agree with you. While this may seem to be an easy aria to sing, it isn't. My coach kept hammering on me to sing this and while I may have had a few pretty notes, it is freaking hard to do. PJ is doing a splendid job.

Everyone and his aunt thinks that he or she can sing this remarkably beautiful and famous aria. Few do it so well, and, frankly, some performances are painfully poor. It is interesting to hear the discernably different yet good voice of Andreas Scholl, Jochen Kowalski, Philippe Jaroussky. I truly wish I could acquire a recording of Paul Esswood singing this aria: his voice would be perfect for it.
