UP3985 NRHS 7/23/92 on 3rd Street Oakland, CA

After shooting SP 2472 at Millbrae, I dashed across the Bay to Oakland to catch the UP 3985 arriving on former Western Pacific street trackage on 3rd Street.

This is where the California Zephyr once entered Oakland. The WP Oakland Depot is a few blocks North of where I was shooting from. The Zephyr's passengers used to board and detrain in the street in front of the depot.

This scene can never be repeated as the tracks have been torn out and buildings now occupy the right-of-way at Oak Street. Thankfully the depot still survives.
