How we are turning our compost into our planting bed. This is the 4th hand dug garden bed we are preparing. After sifting out all the large debris like rocks and glass, screws etc...

We then turn compost in to the very loose soil. We used Cotton Burr as it was recommended at the nursery for hard clay soil. Since this soil was so loose we did not add sand this time like prior beds.

On top of the bed we will sift in a few more shaker boxes of soil (about 1/2 inch) then add about 2 inches of premium top soil and then 2 cft of peet/horse manure (lightly raked into the top soil and native soil).

Once we complete we will plant our hot peppers here.

Perhaps today, blessed are the cloud watchers.

  • @AcresOfReed Ace Scuffle-Stirrup Hoe $15 or get one at lowes my girlfreind had to force her 80yr old mom to try one and as soon as we left she was out the door to get one and darn near landscaped and edged her whole backyard the next day. You can easly mix that compost and dirt by pushing and pulling,it digs trench etc. i used a many an old fashioned hoe on prarie grass etc in alabama (back breaking) this thing just slides along
