  • @vecernicek2 they are not plywood is just cheaper and stronger. The problem with plywood is that the bass doesn't open soundwise while a fully carved bass opens after a certain amount of time and playing. And that's what provides a better tone for both classical and jazz.

  • @vecernicek2 I'm afraid I can't answer that really, I'm just taking up the double bass (actually ordered my Thompson hybrid a couple of days ago). :)

  • @Tbannu thanks for interesting info! Are plywood sides better for jazz, soundwise? Some plywood electric archtops also sound better than carved..

  • @vecernicek2 It's called a hybrid bass because it's neither all plywood nor fully carved - in this bass, the sides and back are plywood and the top is hand carved. It has the best of both worlds.

  • Appologizes for a stupid question, but whats hybrid about the bass? I thought hybrid bass was some kind of fish :)
