- I would love to know what each of you would say if I asked you the question, "What is passion?"
- that was the thing that came to my mind when I contemplated what I was going to speak about tonight.

- then, a few weeks later, on our senior trip, I was in a room with Hannah, Ashton, and Whitney
- Legally Blonde
- took it as a sign from God!
- just kidding

- Definition - the object of an intense desire

- Pop Culture
- Justin Bieber - hair
- LeBron James - basketball
- guy named Andrew Wiles - spent 7 years of his life proving a theorem - Fermat's Last Theorem
- had been his childhood dream

- LPCS - class - has a passion for excellence, evident in our achievement of earning a collective amount of almost 1.3 million dollars in scholarship money
- or maybe just a passion to be debt-free

- Teachers
- Mr. Baker - someone I highly respect and admire
- from his discipline and patience with students
- taking breaks from math to talk about Christian Finance :) or other life lessons
- You can tell he has a passion for math as well as a passion for Christ - it shows in the classroom every day

- Students
- Tim's passion for Star Wars
- Luke's passion for Hannah (haha)
- Whitney's passion for friendship and her friends
- Jacob/Ian/Derek have a passion for music
- Calah's passion for telling a good story
- Austin's passion for soccer so strong that it carried him through even when his award for having the most career goals was taken away

Family
- Dad - passion for excellence and commitment to becoming a great softball player
-pushed me through the years to strive to be better every chance I get
- my mom thinks the thing I'm most passionate about is procrastinating
- but I think some of my highest passions are playing piano... And accordion, of course. As well as softball. But it's not just about the sport; PASSION is the relationships that I have been able to cultivate through it.

- senior night came - my coaches gave me this Bible and each wrote a message to me inside the cover
- I treasure the gift and what they wrote. Their words warmed my heart and gave me great encouragement.
- As long as I've known them, they have always been a fantastic model to me of displaying a passion for Christ within the sport of softball.

- I just gave some examples, but if you really want a flawless picture of passion, look at Christ. He has passion for us that we cannot understand. When pertaining to Christ, passion comes from the Latin root word meaning "suffering." In other words, the passion of Christ is that he suffered for you and me.
- I know I will never forget that because of Mitch Kruse. You know when you make a rhyme out of something, it makes it easier to remember?
- Well -- and Coach Robinson, you'll be proud of this -- he said, Passion, passion, It's not just a fruit-- Passion, passion, It's suffering at its root!

- With the help of this friend I had come across Psalm 37:4, and at first I was on the fence about using it. But the next day I received this graduation card in the mail from the pastor of the church I attended way back when I lived in Michigan, and it had a detachable book mark that had this exact verse on it! See, God's helping me out by giving me these signs! I guess He really didn't want me to blow this speech! He just wanted to give me a challenge with this voice.
- But in all seriousness, the verse reads, "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." Now passion, as I stated earlier, is defined as the object of an intense desire. But what it really comes down to is what makes your heart beat. I'd say the essence of this verse is that God's passion becomes our passion when we surrender our hearts to Him.

- Psalm 37:4 embodies the influence my coaches and teachers have had on me - to have a deep passion for Christ. Their every day examples, along with Godly guidance and encouragement, have helped to instill in me a passion for Christ. That is something I will inherently carry with me through college and my career.

- So as I reflect, passion is in essence the person of Jesus Christ.
- He carried me through the valleys.
- He lifted me to the mountain tops.
- He is the measure by which my life is defined, not my circumstances or outcomes.
- He is the beat of my heart.

- And if there is anything I know, it's that He will carry you through the valleys.
- He will lift you to the mountain tops.
- Let Him be the measure that defines your life.
- Let Him be the beat of your heart.

- Finally, my prayer for you, class of 2011, is that you do everything with passion, giving the best of your ability always. As you go out into the world, let Christ shine through you, as you have been impacted by His perfect passion. And let Jesus be the beat of your heart.

Thank you.
