@jefferson123828 THE BEST WAY TO CHOOSE WHICH FAN TO USE IS... LOOK FOR THE 5 BLADED FANS, AND THE HEAVIEST ONE WILL BE THE ONE THAT WORKS BEST. OR LOOK AT THE ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATIONS ON A STICKER ON THE MOTOR. THE HIGHER THE AMPS, THE HIGHER THE OUTPUT EXPECTED WILL BE.

@LUCKY4908 THIS DEMONSTRATION SHOW THE UNIT PRODUCING ABOUT 120 VOLTS DC. THE RECTIFIER IS WIRED UP THE SAME AS ALWAYS. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS WHEN YOU CONNECT THE UNIT TO THE BATTERIES, THE BATTERIES ACT AS A VOLTAGE REGULATOR. THE UNIT STILL NEEDS TO RECTIFIED INTO DC FIRST. AS THE UNIT TRIES TO RAISE THE VOLTAGE, THE BATTERIES SUCK MORE CURRENT FROM THE COILS. THIS SLOWS THE MAGNETS DOWN AND REGULATES THE VOLTAGE.

i'm 3/4 of the way done with the fan portion. going to mount a pulley on the side of the fan housing and try to use this in a waterwheel application.i already have the wheel turning and can get consistent 120 rpm's in the pulley ratio. when i get this going it sounds like i may need a more advanced regulator. i truly appreciate you taking the time to help with our education!

@victormcox GLAD TO HERE THE WORK GOING WELL. I DONT THINK YOU WILL NEED A REGULATOR. THE BATTERY WILL ACT AS A REGULATOR.
AS LONG AS YOU HAVE PLACED THE MAGNETS INSIDE AND CONNECTED THE RECTIFIERS JUST LIKE IN THE VIDEOS, YOU ARE SET. JUST DONT CONNECT THE BATTERY UP BACKWARDS OR THE RECTIFIERS HAVE A CHANCE OF BLOWING. THE RECTIFIERS SHOULD HAVE THE PLUS AND NEGATIVE TERMINALS MARKED. KEEP US UPDATED ON THIS WATER WHEEL APPLICATION. SOUNDS GREAT.

Mind you, I've never messed around with anything like this before...but with a load it slows down as you said. So, if it's charging batteries does that affect the rate of rotation as well?

@101011b PRETTY COOL THINKING, AND RIGHT ON ALMOST. THE RPMs ARE DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE VOLTAGE OUTPUT. THE HIGHER THE VOLTAGE ABOVE THE BATTERY BANK, THE MORE CURRENT IS DRAINED , AND THE MORE THE UNIT SLOWS DOWN. IF IT STALLS OUT, GO TO A HIGHER VOLTAGE BATTERY BANK. IT WILL SPIN FASTER. VOLTS X AMPS = POWER, MEANS THAT IT WILL STILL BE PRODUCING THE SAME POWER FROM THE WIND, AND WILL PROBABLY SPIN UP TO GIVE EVEN MORE POWER WITHOUT STALLING. COOL HUH?

I did something like that only on a smaller scale. I took a stepper motor from a dumpster printer, fan blades from a medium sized fan, some wire and two leds and cool. It runs for free off my fan. I have a video of it if you want to check it out.

@zackthegoth SOUNDS COOL, JUST POST IT AS A VIDEO RESPONCE. I WILL APPROVE IT. I DID THE SAME THING, BUT I HAD TO EPOXY THE BLADES ON. IT LIT UP LEDS NICELY. THEN MY FRIEND AND I TOOK A SPIN IN HIS SKITTLES TRUCK WHILE I HELD IT OUT THE WINDOW. I TOLD HIM NOT TO GO FAST. BUT HE IS A SMART ALLECK AND I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN HE WANTED THRILL MORE THAN SAFETY. I COULDNT PULL IT IN THE WINDOW WHILE SPINNING. 35 MPH TOOK IT OUT WITH A BANG AS THE BLADES EXPLODED AND HIT HIS FANCY PAINT JOB. LOL.
