I have found the best oil to use on a wooden deck. See the results after one application on a 3 year old deck.

  • Looks good. Which colors of the timber oil did you use?

  • I used natural. Application is very easy. I brushed it on.

    Thanks.

you say that but look how it peels just like all the others BEHR also.

IMO, they all will peel off

I found the BEHR to be reasonable good for outdoor furniture

  • tried a small test area with the, australian timber oil, Jarrah brown and the Mahogant flame, the J. Brown did not bead up very well after a rain but the M. Flame did very well, any thoughts on why the different's?...i applied one coat to new pine wood. if you apply two coats of the Brown it beads up better but is darker and i did not like the darker color...any one care to comment?...

  • @JYPD1 Hey JYPD, you seem very knowledgable about staining. I just powerwashed a cedar fence today. And I'm waiting for some sunshine so that the wood is completely dry before I put on the semi transparent oil stain on it. My question, is should I use a wood neutralizer before I apply the stain? is it a big difference?

  • @scooty34. U can go on forever but I know that the product didn't fail. IF, your wood isn't below 15% moisture, it will peel, if you don't use a wet on wet application, it will peel, if there isn't sufficient air underneath, it will peel. If you apply ANY stain to new pressure treat or cedar, it will peel. Cedar has a sheen from the plaining. that needs to be removed.

By far, this is the best product on the market, and in every complaint, I can point out exactly what went wrong.

  • Cont 1

I just did mine. Time? Almost 23 hours total for a 14x16 deck. These fly by night mickey mouse "professionals" that stick flyers on your door are just as bad the guys that want to slop on a new blacktop coating. In fact usually the same guys!Bing, bang, thank you, then your cash are gone and 6 months later it don't even look like you had it done.

Products? Oil based semi-transparent best if DONE RIGHT, it dries in minutes to the the touch, totally overnight. Again WORK IT IN!

  • Here's a REALITY check. Staining a deck is big, time consuming back breaking job IF you do it correctly. Forget mops, sprayers, rollers. The only way and the right way is get down and get out a good quality brush and slowly work it in. That's AFTER you do a good job power washing, then sanding. That brings up another point. To do a deck that hasn't been done for years you're going to spend many hours getting the old paint/stain off. If your don't, the result will look like crap.

  • Cabots was a mistake for me, I brushed 400 sq feet of beautiful ceder boards on my deck and it looked great for only 4 months. And that's on the east side of my house. I will never use Cabots again. I thought that since Lowes was higher end big box that this would be good, not the case. Learn from my misfortune.

  • sherwin williams deckscapes semi transparent oil based. hands down best, and much better color selection

  • that cabots deck stain is garbage. oil base and it never dries!! i used it but not anymore. also turns black after a few months. waterborne deck stains for now on..

  • do you know if you can use this on cedar?
