There is no jesus. This is the depiction of a fictional religious character. One which symbolizes a specific theistic belief system. By accepting the picture and hanging it openly in a publicly funded institution, they violate the rights of tax payers who do not subscribe to the views that symbol represents. It is like the state forcing them to adopt a certain belief system. It's wrong.

It's a sticky issue, Chris. It really is. The fact is, the US has an official policy of laicism, and, beginning in the mid-to-late 20th Century (I forget the date - sorry), the US Federal Government has run the School Systems.

As there is a religious significance about the personage of Jesus Christ, to allow this image in a school would, at the very least, be perceived as a violation of that policy.

From time to time (and it seems, now more than ever) they merely need to be reminded of this

It's A School, not a Church dammit'. Kids are too impressionable and thats how religion brainwashed most of us, when we were (are) young. Religion causes nothing but problems throughout the world, it's time to leave this ancient way of life behind and if you can't, then leave it your home or church.
