Another old time fiddle tune I've always loved. A Chinquapin is a variety of chestnut, IIRC.

  • Hey lots of folks know about Chinquipin oaks (Quercus muhlenbergii) but the leaf is long narrow and wavy edged -- not five lobes! (<:

I like your version of this song - where did you get it? I'm learning from you right now!

Chinquipin Hunting is one of those fiddle tunes with a dozen variants and names -- seach it on YouTube and you'll see.

Your mandolin sounds great!-- could not see the headstock is it?

  • 2 sources: Dakota Dave Hull/Kari Larson recording and Butch Baldassari's playing. The mando's a Brentrup--still trying to justify owning it 8^). If you ever back this tune up, try playing a GM7 over the first part of the B part--cool tension. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Super nice playing, and I agree with another commenter that your mandolin has the most resonant sound, it strikes the ear so memorably. Thank you for this video!

  • That's great :)

I actually knew what a chinquapin is but I'm probably one of the very few. I was into wild edibles for years.
