To succeed, you need to test yourself against the very best.

And for the Nike Academy players, the squads recent visit to Barcelona provided their sternest challenge yet.

With Pep Guardiola and the Academy coaches watching their match against Barcelona B, this was the players last chance to impress before selection for the the Premier League Assessment Trials.

Two Academy squad members made the cut. Check back soon for an update on how they fared.

True, Zlatan learned most of his skills from playing out on the street which is great to develop technique. However, he did later on play for Mälmo FF's youth academy where he became even better and learned fundamental skills where you can't really learn from only playing out on the streets.

  • They brag about their academy like it was a god's palace, do you think ronaldinho, Zlatan, pele, zidane and most of the other top class football players went to something like a academy? NO. they went for themselves out on the feild or in the street. This makes young footballers to think : Oh shit , I am not choosen out to be on a football academy, I am never gonna succed. This is just rubish, go and read the "zlatan book". You will get more inspiration from that book than from any nike academy

  • @RAhogseth stop geting mad you are just jellouis

  • @RAhogseth true. academies are the be-all but the streets can only teach you so much. by that token, most freestylers who can outplay most professionals should be able to field a world class team. but the truth is, they'd be lost in a FIFA game.

  • where is the diving part? oh ok this isnt actually fc barcelona just the nike acadamy

  • they're teaching them how to dive LOL

I wonder how many drama classes they have to attend every day

  • @LiquidYogi fair enough.

  • anyone know the track that plays at the beginning of the barcelona B match?

  • number 19 for barca is good...the academy's keepper is pretty shit though

  • no you cant learn everything from the streets and by just playing i know people here who are beasts on the streets they embarras u so hard on the streets but once on the field they dont know what to do u can learn a lot in an academy

  • @RAhogseth Well said.

  • @RAhogseth maybe pele naver played in an academy, but pele played in the 60's. Look at barça b team there: romeu, i.cuenca, tello, montoya, riverola, gael etock; all of them are professional football players. Nike academy just can't win, but saying every academy isn't working is a mistake.
