**READ DESCRIPTION - UPDATED Nov 2011**

First download the debugging tools from either 2 locations.

Microsoft has you download the debugging tool from the SDK (software development kit.) All you have to do is deselect all the other tools/software except the debug tool. Or you can download the standalone debug tool (x86 32bit) that I've uploaded separately to Mediafire, all you have to do is install it and you're done.

Windows SDK 32bit
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg463016.aspx

Debugging Tools x86 (32bit)
http://www.mediafire.com/?5arz6dcaxu9pp4m

Windows SDK 64bit
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg463012.aspx

*** MAKE SURE TO RUN THE CMD AS ADMINISTRATOR ****
*** (No need for Window XP users)

1.) Open the Command Prompt
(In the start-menu, click "Run" and type in "CMD" for Windows XP or search for "CMD" In Vista and Windows 7)

(Type this in, go check your program files to see what the debugging tool folder is exactly called, replace the ? with whatever it is. Mine is "Debugging Tools for Windows (x86)" but check yours just to see it may be different)

2.) cd \program files\?????????????????

(continue to type this in once you are done with the first line)

3.) kd -z C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\???????????-??.dmp
(The minidump file has it's own unique number)

4.) .logopen c:\debug.txt

5.) .sympath srv*c:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols

6.) .reload;!analyze -v;r;kv;lmnt;.logclose;q

(once you type that in, it will take a while to complete)

7.) Now you should have a text file that has been created in C:\ called "debug" open it and look for "MODULE_NAME" and "IMAGE_NAME" What ever you see by those will be the culprit.

  • Slow down a little and make sure all of the content on the 'screen' is legible.

  • @UnderTheBlackSunset There's a pause button and it is clear enough? Besides, the video is basically an outline on what to do and is not necessary seeing as all the info is in the description.

  • PROBLEM...The image name is habu.sys......habu.sys belong to my mouse...what i can do in this case? Delete it??

  • @greyfox251 Seems like your mouse may be faulty, try switching it to another USB port or a PS/2 port if it's an older-mouse. If the BSOD still occurs, with your mouse being the problem then you'll have to buy a new mouse which are extremely cheap if you don't care for looks/extra buttons.

  • After I write cd \program files\debugging tools, its say'the system cannot find the patch specified'

    Why???

  • @bob10308 Did you go to your program files to make sure that's what the folder for the debugging tools is called? It has to be exact or else it won't work.

  • Hey I did all the steps and in the end I saw the MODULE_IMAGE came up as unknown_image and unknown_module. So I'm wondering if I did not fully download the debugger thing all the way, and that being why it didn't fully disclose to me the problem for my BSOD?? What do you think, should I redo the whole process?

    thanks!

  • sorted that now got it all set up :) just that KD -z command aint workin

  • i cant install the debug tools ? x64 it says they are downloading then just dont which is odd

  • i meant to say cant get a new computer, sorry.

  • But that is not a option for me. any ideas? I still need to be able to reset it back to factory setting but I can fix the new files that cause this over and over and over. and i can get another computer. i dont know where to go from this point. if i fix it, it happens again with a new file. sorry for the long post

  • I have a bit of a problem and I need to know if I should even bother with doing any of these steps. I have a 5 year old lenovo vista. Iiv been getting blue screen ever sense I got it. I reset the computer back to factory settings form time to time. I still get the blue screen a lot, every time its a different file. Over and over I have my bf fix the error but it comes back. Because I reset it back to factory settings. His thoughts was to go to windows 7. That I need another copy of windows.

  • What do you do if i doesnt make a minidump file.

  • bsod 116

  • HI i have MODULE_NAME: nt, but i don't see any way how to fix it!

    and IMAGE_NAME: ntkrnlmp.exe
