KAREN aka Magikaren. her voice is magic!!!

I agree. Richard is really the creative force and genius behind The Carpenters. Without him, there would be no "Close To You", "We've Only Just Begun",etc. He is so much more than just the piano player. He's an excellent writer, producer,etc. I'm a fan of both and Karen of course brought the songs to life with her magical voice, but he deserves more credit if you ask me. It's a shame they haven't been inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame yet tho. They really deserve it.

@1979davecub I totally agree with you, Karen was divine and full of soul, I really really miss her, she is outstanding and a wonderful star..thanks for your comments to the GREAT Karen Carpenter!

@1979davecub think so?

Oh, and I THINK Doug Strawn was more than a little bit smitten with her here. Frankly, I can't blame him!

God ,how beautiful was this woman? Not just physically (which she was,no doubt. I certainly wouldn't have kicked her out of bed LOL),but her spirit, her grace just shines through. Plus, of course, THAT VOICE. It's certainly a crime she didn't get to live longer than 32 years. I would bet she would still be singing, still making beautiful music by herself and with Richard. Duets with Frank Sinatra,Tony Bennett,and the like. Ahh, to dream.

I think alot of people don't realize it, but Richard Carpenter is responsible for all these songs we are fortunate enough hear Karen sing. The song writing, arranging & composing that Richard has done for music is absolutely incredible. He has a remarkable talent, unfortunetely there will always be a few bad apples that say negative things about him that don't have the facts, just opinions. I wish we had more artists like Richard Carpenter today.

@vmuto1 Unfortunately, I think that Richard Carpenter made a lot of enemies over the years. Without Karen, who was loved by all, to "make up" for Richard's behaviour, they're not getting in. Maybe after Richard passes away.

I would like to thank Doug Strawn for his contribution to the Carpenters as well as all of the other band members. These people stood with Karen & Richard through the years, as well as the ups & downs. I watch this video so much, it's so much fun to watch the way Karen & Doug do this song. They fed off of each other well. But come to think of it the Carpenters concerts sounded pretty close to their actual recordings. Best selling American group between 1970-80. C'mon Hall of Fame put them in!
I wish more people would focus on her talent and voice than her decline. I've noticed that most tend to do that.
