Recorded c.1971, this clip features Alan Hull, Ray Jackson, Simon Cowe, Rod Clements & Ray Laidlaw... and not a footballer in sight.

Taken from the classic No. 1 album of the same name.

  • ..The Beatles and The Who also wrote songs similar to the stuff you hear (sic) on the Disney channel that my almost 3 year old daughter listens to. Still great songs, though...

  • @anonUK Oh right. Sorry about that, misread it.

I think you missed the point of my post, which was a reply to a complete idiot who thought British music was just about specific places and people and had no universal references. The music you mentioned obviously refers to specific states but have some universal applicability.

  • @anonUK Sweet Home Alabama.

    Lone Star.

    Hotel California.

    Californication.

Northeast of England. The north east of the UK stretches from Fife to the Shetlands (at least, until the Scots leave).

This is clearly because all American songs are about universal subjects and none of them are remotely Americo-centric or nostalgic about particular regions or states. They are also all immensely musically sophisticated, in keeping with the advanced musical palate of the American consumer.

An American neologism for a person arguing this sort of thing might be... f*cktard.
