"Morning, mama." She kissed her cheek. It was Saturday. She was stuck.

"Meli, are you going to the church picnic today?"

"It's today?" She bit into a piece of toast.

"Yes it is."

"Okay, I'll go." She said after a moment.

She knew she had to get her brother out too, and get him involved in things, even if he didn't like it.

She would never not aim to be a role model in any way she could. If she didn't go, her little cousins wouldn't either. And if they gave up fun things such as this, it would tear her heart apart even more. This is the only thing she had left.

Her church and her family there.
__

It was a beautiful day out, the sun was shining. She slipped on a pair of capris and a v-neck and left with her mom and brother.

"Hey Tara." Her cousin. Her everything. She was the only one who understood sometimes.

"Hey Melissa."

"I'm surprised you came out for this Tara!"

"So am I. I only came cause you basically forced me to." She laughed.

"Funny. I want you to let loose, have a little fun." Melissa was the more outgoing one in the family, the others were amazing in their own ways. But she felt as if she didn't know much about that because she wasn't allowed to hang out with just them much either.
__

"Hi Johnny!!" Melissa freaked out when she saw her baby cousin. He was a year old, and walking around the park they were at. She hadn't seem him or his parents for a month.

He ran away from her, and his father just chased after him, making sure he wouldn't trip on a branch.

"Hi Aunty Sharon." Her and Tara said at the same time.

"Hi guys. How are you? Long time no see?"

"We're good, you guys should show up more often." I laughed.

"We're working on it." She said looking over at her husband and son.

So far, so good.
__

"Tara! Let's do the tug of war. Come on!"

"No thanks." She said for the fiftieth time.

"Bum." I made a pouty face and went to join the group.

"Jill!" Melissa's best friend since 6th or 7th grade. Her memory got worse by the days.

"Oh I was just looking for you with Mandhira." Her other best friend since 3rd grade.

"MELISSA!!!" She turned around at the sound of her name.

It was Jesse, Jill's younger sister.

"Hey Jesse." There was a girl standing next to her.

"I wanted you to meet this one. Her name's Bina."

"Hi Bina! I'm Melissa."

"Oh wow, you're friendly." Bina laughed.

"Melissa, this is my brother, Brian."

"Nice to meet you Brian." She smiled.

Great. Another boy. And he looks like a ladies man. Yippee.

"How old are you, Melissa?"

"Turning 17 soon, how about you?"

"Already 17. Senior in high school!"

Oh, even better, we're the same age.
___

Our team lost big time in tug of war. My hands were burning because of the tight grip I had on the rope. I forgot how much it hurt to play this game.

Then I felt something cold go down my back.

"JILL. DID YOU JUST DROP AN ICE CUBE DOWN MY SHIRT?!?!" She laughed and started backing away.

"Omg. Wait for it. You're dead." I grabbed the closest water bottle and filled it up with some ice cold water, and dumped it on her head.

"WATER FIGHT!!!" She yelled.
__

"Hi Melissa." She heard Brian's voice.

"Hey. How do you like our church picnic so far?"

"Pretty good."

"I'm glad, you didn't get sprayed yet?"

"Nah, still dry. I see you're soaking." Which I was. Water was in all the wrong places at this point. :P

I turned around to refill my gallon bottle. There was so many to get back.

Then I felt this huge chill down my back.

She turned around with that expression of annoyed, and saw Brian standing there with a childish grin across his face.

"DID YOU REALLY JUST DROP ICE DOWN MY BACK?!"

"Oh yeah I did. Whatcha gonna do, Melissa? You can't do anything to me."

His sister came to talk to him, so he turned away. I got closer, and dumped the gallon bottle of water right on him. I heard everyone say oooo. I grinned when he turned at me. His black shirt was sticking closer to his body now, his white shorts dripping.

"What now, Brian? Don't mess with me. You'll never win." I went off, to soak Mandhira. I owed her. Hehe.
__

Picnic was officially over. Which sucked. She didn't want it to be over. She had to change into dry clothes, but the sad part was all the bathrooms were closed.

"You have to change too, right Jill?"

"Yeah."

"Come on. I gotta change in the car." This should be fun.
