Well with the fuel injectors mostly working (unfortunately #4 injector is ruined) I start the truck finally and get it moving. Not done yet, I still have to replace the glow plugs and replace the fuel injector I damaged. I also appear to have a bad coolant temp sensor, but the good news is that the ICP and HPOP are all working correctly.

  • WOW that is one hard to start ford very happy to see it finally running. Have you done a commpresion test? do the glow plugs run after the engine starts I thought they just glowed red hot then went off? What did you mean chemical assistance you wouldn't use ether on a diesel equipped with glow pluggs would you? Those powerstrokes are supposed to be great engines if you can only get them to start!

  • @johntylerkerlin I'm planning on replacing the glow plugs since I know at least two are dead, when I do that I'll do a compression test, but I'll wait until I can replace the bad fuel injector. As far as chemical assistance goes, I meant ether and I won't use it on a GP equiped vehicle unless the GPs are disabled. It's way to easy to bend something if it pre ignites due to the GPs. I had to jump the GP solenoid to get it to start because there is another issue where it shuts off immediately.

  • Hey, it runs! When you change out that bad injector, and get the sensors all working, it should be good to go. That temp sensor reading high at cold can cause your smoke issue. Basically timing and fuel pulses change to "protect" the engine from excess temps.

Ay, the glow plugs pulse at start up to keep the engine going at cold temps. Once things are warm, they quit heating.

Keep us informed as to what is going on.
