When it comes to today's important public policy issues, the opportunity to be heard depends on whether you can afford it. In this program, Bill Moyers and key legal and public interest advocates examine how industries with deep pockets use their access to the media to overwhelm the public debate, from North Carolina's hog industry to the defeat of the McCain Tobacco Bill to the passage of the Telecom Act of 1996. This Act, all but ignored by the newspapers and TV outlets owned by megamedia, amounted to a massive giveaway of the public's airwaves. What consequences does this control over the flow of information have for our democracy, and how can individuals and public interest organizations counter the growing dominance of big media?

  • I posted this Bill Moyers video on Demonoid in August 2010 in DivX format. My file was 56 minutes 41 seconds long; so is this one. I had done a bad job cropping out the slight noise ribbon on the VHS tape so there was very slight static at the bottom of the right side of the frame. That exact same defect is on this YouTube video. What a lack of class to copy someone else’s upload without any attribution of the source. Simply pathetic.

  • In my book there are a lot of quotes from this great film. The issues really stand up today 12 yrs after it was made. What gives me nightmares is the number of views it has on this site (if we can believe the rigged "hits" charade). When we see the Idiocracy videos that supposedly "go viral" and compare with the horror explained in "Free Speech For Sale," there can be no doubt, we really are all on the Titanic, and the sinking cannot be objected to.

  • Anyone by chance know where to get that SNL skit?

  • The whole vid is important to watch but for those who have no patience I would suggest to start the vid at 33:04 and just watch your rights of freedom of speech be stripped and given away for "free" to corporations.

Then watch the first half and see how difficult it is to take back your rights legally.

I still have hope, but more ppl need to wake up. Enough awake and enough will understand the corporate game. It's becoming more "Corporate America" and less about "We The People", day by day.
