This is an in-camera edit I created for my "Digital Sight, Sound and Motion" class at CCM. Shortly after making a storyboard, our 1st project called for us to film a short movie as an in-camera edit, that is to say, shoot it in sequence with no post-production.

My in-camera edit, entitled "Locked Out", is loosely based on a true event that occurred to me on my first day in college. A student (performed by Evan LaHote) goes to take a shower, and leaves behind his room key. While he is in the shower, his roommate (performed by Adam Willke) leaves for class, locking the door behind him. When the first student comes back from the shower, he discovers the door locked. He tries everything to get in: contacting the RA, using a bobby pin on the lock, hitting his body against the door to break it down, and even using a chair, but to no avail.

We filmed for about 1.5 hours in my residential hall the evening prior to the due-date of the project. If I had more time with this film, it would have been a little better. I originally had the main character in only a towel, so the need for him to unlock the door would be greater. I also had the story ending with the student giving up and going to class the way he was. I managed to find someone willing to perform as my main character that same evening, so I really couldn't designate a classroom. This may not be my greatest video project, but I think it was because we were limited to only stationary shots and no dialogue. It's OK, nonetheless.

Here is a link to the music video a fellow classmate created for our 2nd Video Project, using my in-camera edit:
