And I really can't think of any reason why Ivan is thanking the (then) Leader of the Labour group Derek Boden, and the Labour majority, when they favoured a small Tescos store, and a block of flats on the site.

This is Ivan Lewis blowing his own trumpet! He was absent fom some public meetings where feelings ran high and issues were thrashed out.He sent messages saying ' ... sorry can't be with you....pressure of work...I thought he may be frightened of being lynched if he turned up. As it happened we didn't need him. . Thankfully public opinion prevailed. There's no doubt that the hero of the hour was the Developer, Mark Dransfield.
