  • For me masculinity has many meanings. For me there are masculine traits, which I believe everyone possess, they can decide whether they want to call them masculine or not, and then there is a sense of masculinity that isnt to do with traits.

  • It's mostly the "sense of masculinity that isnt to do with traits" I am trying to refer to here but because society is so segregated in terms of gender and ideas about gendered behaviour it is very hard to convey that effectively. Thanks for your comments! :-)

  • @loroanno

Which feminists? Have you heard of Gloria Steinem? She was pretty feminine, and a hard-core feminist.

I can't think of a feminist who condemned femininity.

  • The toughest girl I knew was very feminin. Femininity is not a weaker force it's a balance the yin and the yan. Feminists have made out it is a weaker force and that is why some like yourself have a self loathing and think 'acting' masculine is the right thing to do. If you want to drive fast cars what's stopping you? Just be yourself and if nobody likes it fuck them but they've got a right to be who they are. as well.

  • But you didn't know if I was male or female before, or doesn't that matter ;-P

And yes...I am definately contrary myself, in many ways.

  • Aren't we all contrary from time to time? Anyhoo, you're very cute.

  • I also believe that society labels so much in life (e.g. interests) as 'masculine and these become a stereotype of masculine. The (femme) female you mentioned sounds like she was caught up with these stereotypes, in turn believing she had to be masculine. It sounds like she was scared about not playing by the gender rules. However, I don't know whether she really is truly masculine from what I heard.

  • My theory is that the best way to express equal amounts of ones masculinity and femininity is to achieve an androgynous appearance and presence within society. Then maybe people can't so easily apply their gender rules on us.

I hope you achieve your balance with your gender issues, and achieve a fuller expression of your masculinity. I relate to your fear about people's reactions and you're not alone. I often think though that we can get to where we want to be even with the most tiny steps.

  • From insults to flattery?! You are indeed a contrary creature :-)

  • LOL. I was actually just joking. Well, I honestly wasn't sure of your gender only because of the nature of your profile. All I can say is that you're a very cute girl. You have beautiful eyes and a lovely smile.
