Beijing Authorities Assault Japanese Journalists

And also in Beijing, authorities broke into a hotel room and assaulted three journalists on Friday night.

The reporter, cameraman and their Chinese assistant work Japans Kyodo News. They were in Beijing during Friday nights rehearsal for the October 1 military parade. The parade will mark the 60th anniversary of the communist takeover of China.

Kyodo says authorities kicked and beat the journalists, and quote hit their heads to make them kneel down.

Their computers were then thrown from the room into the hallway.

Its unclear why they were assaulted. But in recent weeks, authorities have verbally warned many journalists not to film, photograph, or even open hotel windows during parade rehearsals.
