This is a young shelter dog, in an early lesson on not biting the leash. She tugs so much that walking was not possible and there was a chance of injury to anyone handling her (falling over or leash yanked from hands!).

This is her first lesson on not grabbing the leash.

  • Wonderful work! What part of the country is this dog in? She looks really fun!

  • @thistlemiss Thanks! She is located near Columbus, Ohio and as of Oct 9, 2011 she is still available for adoption.

  • my dog does not respond to food if he gets to excited when he sees other dogs sometimes he is ok with other dogs and some times he wants to fight with them or he seems like he wants to he is a big dog 100pnds he looks like a american bull dog but some times his ears stick up like a great dane he is 16 months old we adopted him when he was 6 months old they found him running on the streets he is nice to me but sometimes growls at my girl friend

  • @doobing : That's a hard situation. What state/area are you in and I can try and point you to an appropriate professional in your area. A dog who is refusing food either says the food isn't good (....we don't all like the same foods!), has health issues, or he is too aroused (and fearful or worried or excited) to eat. Being too worked up is not a good state of learning and we want to avoid those situations for now.

  • @doobing :: (part 2)

    If I were in your situation, I would do everything I could do to avoid seeing other dogs for right now. I would have 2 barriers between your dog and girlfriend at all times ( Doors, crates, gates, leashes, something). I would make a consult with an appropriate professional ASAP due to his size and so we can get a change.

  • awesome work!

  • Great!!

  • @JoshuaXiong100 : Can you be more specific? But probably not.

  • Great questions! This was from a 5-7 minute session. If the behavior occasionally pops up, the handler will freeze (or hold onto a second, dragging leash or move with the dog so there is no resistance). When the dog opens her mouth, the handler will toss a treat. Then we are sure to reinforce more often for good walking as well as review self control activities. If you need longer, more detailed notes, please let me know.

  • Very nice work. How long did this take? And what would you do for intermittent biting? Sometimes shelter dogs don't do this until you're out on a walk.
