@argenvia2 Thanks - the last part is shot at Clapham/Eldroth on the Carnforth - Hellifield line just befor it joins the Settle-Carlisle at Settle Junction. Ingleborough in the Pennine Fells in the background. Look out for the new DVD Sir Nigel Gresley over the Settle-Carlisle - out from BNT Productions in the Autumn. PH

What an absolutely fantastic clip! So glad that we have sufficient A4s in steam to portray a 'shed' scene. Have spent many years chasing steam over the S&C, but that final shot approaching under Ingleborough - if I squint my eyes, it could be any A4 with a 60s BR red coaching rake running before Perthshire hills on their regular Glasgow - Aberdeen turns. As a kid, used them often from home in Glasgow to my uncle's farm in Aberdeen for the summer hols! Thank you so much.

I will be over in the UK in a few weeks rideing behind an A4 out of Kings Cross London the loco is the Bittern that will lead our train I was informed

Stunning!! Loved it, can't help but noticing that Bittern did most of the work whilst her sisters sat around in the sunshine though LOL!!!! Gawd I love those A4's!!!xx

I used to wondered: why there was no steam-electric units, despite the fact that steam age shared some time with electric trains in some mainlines (SR in example), technology wasn't out of reach. Diesel-mechanical sets were rare, diesel-electric(diesel-hydraul­ic too) sets proven better choice. End of steam was logical step, but not to preserve and immediately scrap new locos, which entered only few years ago service, it was madness.
