Something odd happened today. While I was doing some programming, the screen seemed to stall and these weird pixel blocks became active on the screen.

I was not able to interact with anything on the screen and the only way to shut the computer down was to literally pull the plug.

I haven't seen this issue before so if you guys know anything about, please help the community by shedding some light on it. Thanks for watching!

  • I have a problem similar to this on my iMac — only it's a PowerPC and it's a model before the newest. It's screen constantly has vertical lines that often shift over to the side for a second and go back. It starts up fine (usually) and then 3 seconds after the screen is fully loaded it does this. As long as I don't touch the cord or adjust the screen it's fine for a couple of minutes...what do I do?

  • @anoteformichiyuki Take it to Apple! There is a reason why they are the top rated CSR in the world! They might even give you a new one :-)

  • I have no idea what the problem is but that sucks that would really piss me off especially if it's a brand new computer.

  • @RugB346 One of the biggest reason why I buy apple products is because of their customer service. The Apple CS here were more than happy not only to return the iMac back at their cost but also offer me discounts for the i7. :-)

  • You need a new one

  • Did you ever resolve this problem? My older iMac (I bought it in 2004) is now doing this - I just shut it off to wait until I had the money to have Apple look at it... which may be a long, long time. I'm hoping I can fix it myself (I resolved a few big problems w/the PC laptop I'm now using, and I really know nothing about computers - just used creative problem solving & the internet).

  • @dedzone its an imac. . so no. according to apple a vent at the bottom of the imac is the best way to cool it by somehow defying the laws of physics

  • Yeah, might be memory or video. Was there proper ventilation over there?

  • may be the RAM chips or video card reinstall the graphics card

  • Looks like someone jizzed on your screen.

  • @kiashadowwave You shouldn't start a sentence with "because"

  • @coffeeandsugar20 Because it would be a terrible thing if people actually took time to learn about technology. Because it is so difficult to plug 6 different components in. Because it is so hard to pay the $50 building fee on online stores. Because it's so hard to ask your friend/relative, who (statistically) can build one. Because owning a PC means I a gamer virgin, even though the extra $1,500 I didn't spend on a mac bought me a spring break vacation with more ass than you will ever dream of.

  • @kiashadowwave I can tell you're an obvious /b/tard. Not everyone can build a PC. Enjoy dying a virgin gamer fag

  • This is obviously a GPU problem.
