Zugspitze cable car -- Ride of our life!!

A dream ride down the slope from Zugspitze (2962 metres above sea level), a snow-capped mountain in The Alps, in Bavaria province, Federal Republic of Germany.

The cable car starts close to the summit, at around ~2900m, and comes down to the valley near Eibsee (1000m above sea level). The whole journey takes about 9 minutes. The cable has 4 hinges, one at the bottom (1000m), two in the middle, and one at the very top (~2900m). It must be noted that during the journey down we do not encounter the first hinge for close to 5 minutes (when you hear screams and high exclamations from the people in this video at 4'41'', and when i say "something is gonna happen now").

I remember riding this as a child, back in the 1960s. Back then they would stop it about half way to the first tower for a minute or so for people to take photos...it was very disconcerting to feel the car say in the wind....I am GLAD they apparently don't do that...I was only 6yrs old, but I never forgot it.

@mgymgh - true. even otherwise it is pretty scary! I went there again last month and felt the same, except that it was snowing heavily at the top. nerve-wracking and fascinating ride. :)
