Alan Gilbert had the Philharmonic play this tonight, to honor the late Sir Colin Davis and also the victims of the Boston bombings. Very, very moving.

I never heard it on a movie. If i could do my own film, i'd use it in the opening scene.

Sorry, but where did I say Western Europe was not predominantly an agricultural economy at the time of the Roman Empire. As anyone knows, we were predominantly agricultural until the Industrial revolution about 250 years ago. China, of course, was predominantly agricultural just a few decades ago. So, what is your point?

I'm not denying that the romans and greeks weren't great. But the Romans were Romans, not European. 95% of Europe( as we know it today) was agricultural and poor and that IS a fact.

I have to be honest and say that I never read the original comment that stated that the West is superior. I would never agree to that, but do you really want me to name things invented in the West and not the East. We could start with the Industrial revolution and the tens of thousands of inventions, if not millions, that stemmed from that it such as trains, planes and cars. No, we did not invent paper but we did quite well, I think.

the comment i replied to said that europeans invented everything of importance and i said they did not and you have not come up with one thing apart from democracy that the west apparentley invented both east and west invented things but to assume that western european countries are inherently superior is the most ridiculous comment i have heard in a long time

I see a dark horse with neck arched walking slow - in stirrups are shining black boots facing back. Tears falling from sad looking souls as the horse passes by - a hero returns to his roots looking back wearing black.

I said Europeans were developing a democratic system. I did not say they were truly democratic, but the system developed by the Greeks and Romans is still the basis for many democracies today. The American Senate is not called Senate by accident.
