This is not fake stereo or a sync-up with another take. These are real stereo vocals, extracted using harmonic analysis software to isolate vocal tracks from the original mono master. Listen closely and you'll hear harmonies that were previously inaudible, and the backing track of the mono master has been greatly suppressed. Only two sources were used: the original we all know and love, and the stereo backing track (created by the talented Mark Linett) from the '06 Good Vibrations EP. The only change I made to the track was adding half a second of the original mix's bridge, because I think it kicks things off better.
Now, for various reasons -- the quality of the sources, software limitations, my lack of patience/experience, etc. -- extracting the voices doesn't mean we get a perfect a cappella version of the song. Subtle bits here and there have still slipped through, most of them percussion. But this isn't intended to be the best-sounding version of the song -- just a demonstration of what can be done by someone with a bit of professional software and a fair amount of patience. Maybe someone with more of both -- powers that be, are you listening? ;) -- can take a crack at it and bring back something better.
Breath-taking. Ravishing. THANK YOU FOR DOING THE WORK AND THEN SHARING WITH US ALL!!!

Lovely mix. Better than anything I've ever heard. But, I'm just a musician - not a techie.

Wow, what a soundstage. I've heard this song a zillion times but never so open and with instruments & vocals that I never knew were in the mix....great work...wish I could buy a copy of this version.

Fantastic - best stereo mix of the vocals ever! Have you posted this somewhere in a lossless format like FLAC?

@IHeartMikeLove. Excellent work. Well done. I agree with your thoughts. You're almost there! No doubt, the mixing boys at Capital could pull off an almost perfect stereo mix using similar tecniques, given how close your demonstration comes. Well done again.

How ungenerous and mean-spirited of you. Could you do any better? This person did this for free and for the love of the music. He didn't say it was perfect.
