back japan, there was always disciplinary teachers. they had rights to take away anything finds disruptoing school. they used to be too drastic but I think may be that what school needs. It is just not fair school push subject teaching teachers act as entertainers of students by treating them as dispolsable employee based on contracts. kids know that too.
Good question... Why isn't there a social emotional curriculum in our primary and elementary school levels. Does it just stop in preschool? Looking to improve our public school system.
It's not about blame, its about taking action to make that connection with those children that didn't get it at home. After all someday those children will be the ones who will take care of us when we are old. Be the hero.
I have to agree with you! I think there should be a class that teaches teachers classroom management skills, that focuses on the positive discipline not the "rewards and punishment" that are currently used today to mange behavior. Rewards and punishments is the same as bribes and threats using a "nice voice".
All I heard from this video clip is "how to control bad behavior". They focus on the bad behavior and how to control the students and "make them silence" using control tips. They seem to focus on "what to do to students" instead of working with them and seeing what is really going on. If you want to really teach, I recommend "Consciouse Discipline by Dr. Becky Bailey. She focuses on connection and relationships inorder to help the children problemsolve.
As teachers, we need to get all the information we can get. Obviously, everyone expects teachers to be everything. What about the parents? Its those "do gooders" who interfere with parents and teachers on how we should discipline. As a teacher and a parent, the whole system is mucked up. We cannot hurt the "self esteem" of the child. I never knew I had "self esteem" until I was 40 years old and I went through a lot of bad times and my "self esteem" is still intact.
