Hatcher Pass, Alaska. This trail is rated Moderate for hiking difficulty, and not suitable for dogs or children. I thought it was HARD, but well worth the time and effort of climbing it!!
Watching these wonderful summer videos got me all jazzed about planning more backpacking trips this summer to explore my beautiful state of Alaska. Just what I needed to boost that dreary winter blah! And I am thrilled to be able to share this beauty with all who stop by. Just remember that this video doesnt do the view justice. It was soooo breath takingly beautiful.
This first video shows the first part of the trail that leads to Lower Reed Lake about 4+ miles, the destination for our campsite. At 2:00 you will see other hikers and a dog crossing a huge boulder scramble. This was not as easy as they make it look. The rocks were up to 40 ft above the raging river and often only a tip or foothold was all you had to catapult to the next stepping stone. It was scary and one slip....well, you dont want to go there. We sat there and watched many hikers go by and several dogs that cried and couldnt make it without help. Heck, I whined and almost turned back here!
