FS #168 & 169; FSV# 157.
Here we are, ANOTHER pair of schools that have the same song- Kansas State of Manhattan, and Lamar of Beaumont, Texas (part of the Southland Conference.)
I do not know the history of how both schools got the same fight song, but yes, the lyrics are nearly identical. I may figure that the song itself is from an old song, but the schools have their own claim:
K-State tells us that the song was composed and written by Harry Eckerson in 1927.
Lamar, in 1962, had Dr. Ted Skinner and Charles Wiley compose and write the lyrics- I have never found that they had used K-State's song.
The music however is one of a kind, though the lyrics are near indistinguishable, they share the same passion for the colors, the school and their sports team all in one song.
I will expect some shock from fans from the Wildcats of the Plains and the Cardinals of the Gulf Coast that the songs are the same, but remember the rules I had set for commenting. Don't repost this vid. Thanks for complying!
