our brain is as complex as a cpu and although we know what a cpu can do the potential is infinite, IMO a cyborg/android can see it's own nature like the one we see with our god, we are the architects of their universe therefore the definition an android/machine can't match a human being. Something we call god was the architect of our universe so we think there is nothing to match him/she/it, it would be the same ideology with the machine.

@deleriousexile In a sense humanity could be defined that way. Anything that is not infinite can be described by any other non-infinite set, such as 1's and 0's . You just need enough. In this case, you would need enough to describe the positions of every atom, every electron, and whatever other elementary particles there are. The main questions is, do you need all that? Anything that is 'human' but requires less resources for the same actions is superior.

@deleriousexile In the end Machines dont have to match us, they have their own nature defining their own ethics and functionalities. At the end we are just a prisoner as they are in our own limitations and perceptions. Some of this are directly from Buddhist texts that led Shirow to raise the questions that he raised in context of man and machine. To declare any one of the sides superior to other is shortsightedness, when both are different worlds with own standards just as any human is.

@deleriousexile We use logic and discrete mathematics in our own conscious and unconscious decisions. And machines use a simplified system that hasnt quite reached our level yet, however even our own arbitrations are essentially mathematical in logical nature, including the uncertainties and experiences which are in effect evolving functions that we are constantly revaluating.

@deleriousexile You can not possibly limit the reaches of an android within the reaches of the flesh that conceived it at first. An android's world is different, no matter how much of it is shaped in the image of the world of the flesh. Otherwise it would be saying the reality of a painting is always the painter's reality, the painting can infact transcend the painter's reality. Superiority of the flesh.. claiming to its purity is an illusion that your consciousness binds you to.

@noxure yes but machines always operate on facts of logic and mathematics. While we develop based on experiences and uncertainties. Even if a machine were to have the same capacity and processing power as the human brain. They would never be us. Take for instance data from star trek, or the dolls in ghost in the shell. They were powerful and sometimes super human to flesh and blood. Though they never matched up to us in aspect that we call humanity(emotions, creativity, ethics).

@deleriousexile The worlds fastest supercomputer today has the capacity of 2500 Teraflops. That's about 0.2% of the estimated capacity of a human brain.
In the 30 years of my life, I've seen computers getting one million times more powerful. So, it's perfectly possible that machines will surpass our intelligence, even within our lifetime. We can let them experience the world just as we do and they will be able to program themselves just like we do, only better.
